Dreams Were Meant to Be Followed

As everything is shutting down due to the corona-virus, many of us are being forced to slow down and re-evaluate our lives. The old adage that ‘time seems to move faster with age’ seems to be true in our modern fast-paced society. Often this go-go-go nature comes with a cost. The cost of our dreams.

Do you have a dream, a talent or a desire that you’ve been putting on hold? Or are you feeling as I once did, that “there has to be more to life than this?”

We all have reasons why we don’t build our dreams and many excuses, including the common one “I have no time.” But what if you didn’t have to wait any longer? What If you could start taking steps now toward building your future? What if this pandemic has a silver-lining enabling you to slow down and focus on what really matters to you?

I realize it’s hard to dream about the future when we are stuck in ‘survival mode’ and taking huge leaps of faith can feel too risky. I get it. I’ve been there. But if we don’t allow ourselves to dream and start taking action, we will remain stuck, sometimes for decades. To me that’s much worse.

I have my own ‘stuck story’ (I’ve shared before) that I thankfully got myself out of. Like many others, I experienced ‘wake up calls’ before I finally took a leap of faith to leave a career and lifestyle that was sucking my soul. I know what it’s like to be faced with uncertainty and how it can feel scary and exciting at the same time. Now that I look back, I can see there was nothing scarier for me than remaining dead inside. I’m so grateful I listened to that little voice inside that has led me to find and continue to deepen my understanding of my life’s purpose through the work I do in the world and the life I continue to build.

From my experience: a vision builds as we walk it. For many of us we have hints of what we want but it’s not until we start walking the path of our bliss that more is revealed to us. And if you’re one of the lucky ones who already knows what your bliss is and you’re not consciously going for it, I’m sure there’s a part of you that’s itching. Itching for more. Itching to know, 'what would happen if I followed my dream?' You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you give up the excuses, shift the limiting stories in your head and take continuous steps forward. If you’re on the fence to change, remember you don’t have to do it alone. I haven’t. I have had and continue to have amazing support from: family, friends, coaches, mentors, yoga teachers and others in the world who ‘get it.’ Some people won’t get it and that’s ok. You’ll find your tribe.

Is it the easy road to following your dreams? No and yes. See the thing is, if you follow your dreams you will most certainly be faced with your inner demons, be stretched out of your comfort zone and things often won’t often go as you expect. BUT you will grow, you will experience more joy and if you can detach from the outcome, the journey will be a rich one indeed. In a way, this path IS easier, because you’ll be living more in alignment with your truth. The closer we are to our natural state, the more likely we will enter into, what many call, ‘a flow state’. During states of flow, creativity moves through us more freely and time feels better used.

Will you make time to explore your dream in the coming weeks? What one step could you take now to set your dreams in motion?
